Hyundai Ioniq Electric India debut at Auto Expo 2018
Hyundai India to showcase 15 products at the Auto Expo 2018 including Hyundai Ioniq Electric. Ioniq is available in three different drive trains which include, a hybrid, plug-in and all electric version.
Commenting on Hyundai’s expectation for Auto Expo 2018, YK Koo said, “Hyundai is celebrating 20 years of its production and sales in India. This year our theme for Auto Expo 2018 is ‘Experience Hyundai’ showcasing eco-friendly, mobility and connected technologies along with 15 trendsetter products.”
With the changing tide in Indian automotive space, Hyundai is also banking on electric vehicles and is planning to showcase the Ioniq electric vehicle and the Kona EV SUV. Mr YK Koo added “Our first EV in India will be launched next year. At the moment we are yet to finalize whether it will be the Ioniq EV sedan or the full electric version of SUV Kona.” This comes as a surprise as Hyundai will be ahead of Maruti-Suzuki, which plans to launch its first EV in 2020.
Hyundai Ioniq is based on an all-new platform that is optimized to deliver responsive handling and still offering high efficiency with all three power trains. The fully-electric (EV) version is powered by a high capacity lithium-ion battery and gets a 28-kWh battery which is stuffed under the rear seat and a bit into the cargo under floor.
Hyundai this year will focus on customer engagement with nine experiential zones for Auto Expo 2018 – an Eco-friendly zone that will showcase the Ioniq EV, a Mobility zone where the N-badged car will be displayed, a Robotics zone to showcase Hyundai’s technology, the Kona zone for the Kona SUV, an Award zone to commemorate the carmaker’s anniversary, a Sports Zone, a Kids Zone, a Road safety zone and a Jai Ho zone, which will have all of Hyundai’s current India product line.
